Mystic Garden

“The state of Oaxaca has been kidnapped, as has the rest of the country,” begins an article in today’s La Jornada. The state or condition of having been kidnapped is descriptive, of more than one state and more than one country.

I had not bought a Dylan album in decades, but I have been listening to Modern Times for three days, and I am still fascinated. This album is famous for “The Levee’s Gonna Break,” but I like the other songs as well.

The last song is set in a “mystic garden.” Mystic as well are the Andalusian patios of New Orleans, with their fountains and ambiguities.

Axé.

  1. I’ve been spending tiem with teh new Dylan as well.

He’s got a song with the word “proletatriat” in it – be still my heart.

  2. I’m going to Oaxaca next March for a week–my first use of my fancy new passport (my first ever). I’m feeling pumped all ready.

And I’m listening to the new Dylan stuff, as well. In fact, it spurred me to play Subterranean Homesick Blues for a couple of classes talking about paradigm shift. I’m going to see a multi-media exhibit about Dylan in the 1950’s and 1960’s at The Morgan Library and Museum when I’m in NYC in December.

It’s going to be SUCH a good year!

  3. Ah Rebel Girl, we’re on the same wavelength!  And this is fantastic news, Changeseeker! I envy you Oaxaca and the Dylan exhibit, although I’ve got a ticket now for Santiago de Chile Dec. 11, so I cannot complain. I’ll play SHB too and see what I can divine about paradigm shift!
