The colleague I am losing, and who is my only colleague, and who will not be replaced, has now edited my project description and he is very intelligent.
(As people working on the literature and history of Hispanic world, which is of course a very large part of the whole world, we are “in a narrow field the University does not support” and I am quoting a document from the Board of Regents textually.)
If I do what he says to this text I will have a longer, but also better proposal, that will of course improve project design but as I have realized, will also help make me competitive for grants I always assumed I would never get since I always assumed I was a second class academic, here by kindness but not by merit. Considering matters impartially and coldly that was an unrealistic assessment and the present project is in fact of interest.
(I want to change the subtitle of this weblog as I am no longer writing in memory of Paulo Freire but “Considerando en frío, imparcialmente…“.)

Oh dear. I guess that throws one back on the notion of knowledge for its own sake. Not a very salable notion in the US of A and especially not in the dear old Southland.
