I was to meet a girlfriend who I haven’t seen for at least 15 years. So, I dressed up a little bit but nothing out of the ordinary, black slacks and shirt and high heels. I left home and while walking I heard a loud voice of a man coming my way: Amazza oh, Amazza oh. He was walking a pair of dogs and I thought he was hurrying them up. As he gets closer I realized he was the husband of my sister’s friend. He doesn’t speak much English or Spanish but his native Turin Italian. So, I greeted him and asked about his wife Martha and he gave me the usual news, very busy at home taking care of a Californian student living in their Boston’s house. And then he goes like that: “ Now I understand why you don’t want to come to our home for dinner. Because I will assault you. You’re so beautiful”. Maybe he thought he was complimentary. In my view, he was insulting his wife, who by the way, is the most beautiful and sweetest woman in the world. Then I said: Hector, I am late for a meeting, say hi to Martha, bye and he mumbled again a sentence in Italian which I couldn’t understand but, by the tone, sounded out of place. I left and he goes: “Don’t be upset. I just meant what I said: You’re very beautiful”. I ran away thinking that some men do not deserve having very competent, beautiful and sweet wives. For them that is routine!.
Sexist, and a power move, but he thinks it’s complimentary, because he is machista, and will call you puritanical if you do not like it, that is to say, if you do not submit to it or comply with it.
Z,

Complimentary or sexist?

Music for the weekend
A nice Sunday has this kind of flavor dear Z
Thank you, Carlos! Lovely day here, too … I did not take enough advantage of it, but I definitely noticed!
