Memorandum 5

To all deans, chairs, and directors: I realize that at home with your families – with your young children and your wives whom you met when you had them in your classes and who teach high school or community college courses – your wisdom appears to parallel that of Solomon, and your logic, that of Aristotle. If you are not immediately comprehensible, your word is pondered alongside that of God.

Please understand, however, that at work you are dealing with other professors who may be able to identify poor logic, or understand that some of the things you do are actionable. At home, for instance, you may be able to look the other way when abuse happens or to engage in it yourself. At work, however, you really ought not to respond to reports and requests for support on serious matters by saying “You must work still harder to convince that person not to do that any more” or “You must convince the entire department that this is happening.” Understand that some of your attempts to pull the wool over peoples’ eyes just make you look silly.

Axé.

Note: this post was written before Professor Zero was taken into custody.  Signed: THE DIRECTOR.

  1. All true – although I wish I had learned earlier in life to recognize this kind of coverup behavior – ! At least I know now.
