Microphilanthropic Challenge

Microphilanthropy is good! Contact me for further information.

Melanie is a 12 year old girl who lives in Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town, who had been attending Observatory Junior School. She has done very well at school, attaining between 85% and 96% for most subjects including the three languages, maths, science and technology. She has just completed Grade 7. She has been accepted at a very good High School in Rondebosch on the basis of her good marks. But there is also sadness behind the story. Her parents who are poorly paid first level nursing staff at Groote Schuur Hospital cannot afford the school fees for this High School. The parents have two other children and extended family from the rural area living with them as dependents.

In a micro-philanthropic effort to help Melanie achieve her dream of going to the High School of her choice a number of people have rallied together with small pledges of manageable monthly donations (for five years) into a Melanie School Fund. Small amounts mean R30 or R50 or R100 per month on stop-order, or USD10-20. . . .
