Coldhearted scientist

→ I have changed my name again, to Coldhearted scientist. There was the Hedonistic pleasureseeker who had been called that as a criticism, and I have always been criticized as a coldhearted scientist so I am claiming that until I find my real name. I may delete this weblog if it says what it apparently does.

→I do not believe in and do not recommend sacrificing oneself to teaching, service and administration.

→ I am opposed to pontification from people at institutions where you can phone it in on teaching and get away with that, to people who are not and cannot, about how they should. I am also opposed to the meaningless bleating of people who look down on the administrative work that got them their classrooms, their offices and their jobs.

→ I am opposed to academic advice that condescends and misleads. The reason I like The Compleat Academic is that it is a practical guide for heavy hitters with actual information in it, not a condescending tract that assumes people do not know how to use time, or do not know how to put one word next to another.

→ I will not have anything I have said about standard academic advice and the way I have been beaten over the head with bad versions of it be used to characterize me as someone espousing teaching and service “values.” I do not want anyone to emulate that or cite this weblog as an excuse to do so. I will never surrender and I will not be moved.

Axé.

    1. Good — I am just having trouble giving up the Native American names, since I am supposed to be a skull on a stela.

  1. Mictlantecuhtli is still showing up in my Google Reader as the name of your blog, so it wasn’t until this post that I clocked the change.
