For the last day and more, I have not been able to get sound on YouTube. This evening I have no picture from it, either. I see yawning white spaces in this weblog, where music videos should be. What is the meaning of this outrage? If you have any ideas, I would love to know. I can hear Internet radio, however. I recommend WWOZ, that is, W-Wizard of Oz, for their carnival sounds.
The search terms people have used to find this blog today are: “‘O sole mio’ translation,” “Bernardo Silva flamenco,” “recent plane wrecks,” “a refugee crosses his tracks,” “Huehuetenango 2006,” “Hijo de la luna poem,” “Mulatos de Esmeraldas,” “Lila Downs,” “Se vuol ballare,” “As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,” “undermined at work,” and most comically, “when to leave academia!”
Another worthy fragment of the current electronic world is Barbie‘s characterization of a whiteman’s speech last night as “the surrealistic apocalyptic nightmare brought to the planet during primetime via CNN.”

i seond you changing to firefox…fast and better than IE…
FF is my usual browser, IE is too insecure (even the Dept of Homeland Security warns against using it, it makes your system too vulnerable)! I’ve also tried Mozilla, Netscape, and Opera, can’t get sound on YouTube in any of them, it is a great mystery. But: glad to know YouTube is at least working for y’all — and I’m going to re-download all browsers, see if that helps. Thanks Azgoddess and Nezua!! –Z

OK, I updated Firefox, and now YouTube works. THANK YOU Nezua, I would not have figured this out. How did you know this was the problem???
Note on the new Firefox: it has the Google Toolbar. I do not like this. What is this GT for? Is it not somewhat redundant? Does it not just take up space? It definitely takes up too much space.
