Porcelain Jar

I am still snowed in with paperwork and this may continue for some time. I am also leaning into my current academic piece. At the studio, I have made a lidded porcelain jar.

Meanwhile, a book worth reading is Guinier and Torres’ The Miner’s Canary (Harvard, 2002) on the limits of the “democratic” political system of the United States (see the reviews in The Nation and Christian Century) and the ways in which “race,” understood as a political category and not an individual “problem” could work to remedy these.

This is Friday, Oxalá’s day. Look across to the light.

Axé.

  1. In a shamelessly belligerant demonstration of not being under the complete control of my circumstances, I have ducked in here to exhale and wave. Hullooo! In fact, I was here this morning for the first time in a couple of weeks, but didn’t have time to comment. And then found you over on my tired old post a moment ago which, of course, brought me back.

I saw Guinier on C-SPAN once speaking about this book right after it came out. I almost ordered her presentation, it was so excellent. Haven’t thought about it since. And, of course, just spoke of her in class fifteen minutes ago. Sometimes, I have to believe there is a wave length after all. I’m glad we’re on it. ;^)
