On Democracy in America

News I would like to be considering today includes the Padilla case and the Democracy Protection Act. The question I would like to be considering is: if the Democratic candidates are people like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, who have supported the Patriot Act and the war, should one vote just to oppose the Republicans, or sit it out? Back home there were parties like Peace and Freedom, but we do not have them here.

I know what the rationales are for voting for people like Hillary and Barack, but I think that anyone who would vote for a piece of legislation like the Patriot Act does not understand the intent of the Constitution and is not qualified to hold public office of any kind. How do you feel about this matter? Are the Republicans really worse, and was Bill Clinton really better? I know I should probably get “realistic” and accept the arguments for the “yes” answer to these questions, yet to do so feels false. It muddies all of my thoughts to attempt to say that something is acceptable, which simply is not.

Axé.
