I never read the newsletter of California Prison Focus as closely as I might, but an item in the current edition caught my eye – Robin Levi and Vanessa Huang’s “Prison Proposal is Disturbingly Akin to Eugenics” (rpt. from L. A. Daily Journal, 8 January 2007), on p. 25. Apparently, sterilization is again being foisted upon prisoners. The article’s most eye-opening claim is that in the early twentieth century, California had such a well developed eugenics program that the Nazis themselves found inspiration in our model. 20,000 people were forcibly sterilized by the state.
Axé.
I am always inspired by the breadth of your inquiry and reading.
and i thought that’s why the prisons were filled with AIDS — to kill them off
now how do they actually think they can reproduce in prison?
tongue outta cheek now
nothing surprises me anymore…about what one person can do to another one…
Yeah AZ – and thanks, RG, I am flattered! It is of course all explained by my being a devil from a UC … although from the way I slack sometimes, you wouldn’t always know it.
I’m with Rebel Girl.
Well thanks to you too, CS … I am intellectually engaged, I will say that.
