Hurricane Dean

I am on high ground near 1oW. E-mail profacero@gmail.com if evacuating for this or future storms. No guarantees but I might have leads on places to stay. I am rather reserved but especially if you have a blog I know, I will probably trust you.

Dean 1

As you can see here, the storm will hit the Lesser Antilles Friday morning. It continues on to Jamaica and then the Eastern Yucatan, which it should be leaving Tuesday morning on its way up to us. I hope it does not come, or that it passes quickly and uneventfully. I want to be in town for Rising Tide 2.

Axé.

  1. NHC Discussion #14 (5 PM Thursday) says it could become a Category 4. I think the eye is going to Corpus Christi, however. So far. This puts Louisiana at the eastern edge, but somewhat far away.

It has been really, really hot, and as we know, that makes hurricanes grow stronger.

This discussion was by forecasters Blake and Avila. Avila is my favorite.

  2. NHC discussion #16 (5 AM Friday) says it will still be a category 4. It is slowing down over Martinique and moving slightly to the right. If it does not cross the Yucatan Peninsula it will not slow down/weaken there.

This discussion was by forecaster Beven. He is my other favorite, after Avila. Avila is from Havana, I believe, and Beven is from Baton Rouge.

I am guessing we will figure out on Tuesday what is happening. I would like to know earlier, because as I say, I want to be in town that weekend.

  3. It is making landfall in southern Quintana Roo (Mexico) as a Category 5 storm right about this moment. As it crosses the Yucatan Peninsula it will remain at Category 5. Hurricane Dean is the size of Texas.

  4. Now it is just a TD but it is still causing flooding in Mexico. I saw some reports which said it actually crossed the Yucatan as a category 1 storm, but others saying it stayed at 5. I have not paid enough attention.
