The heat wave of the past few weeks has broken. It was only 96 degrees at noon today, and felt cooler – cool enough to stroll to the bookstore at lunch. If, as you stride across the fresh grass, you run into band practice, and after tuning up on Jambalaya they burst into You Are My Sunshine, you know what state you’re in. It is a beautiful day.
Now singing are Hank Williams, Jr. and Hunter Hayes, on Jambalaya. Hunter Hayes is only four here. Listen to him play. Ignore the Stars and Bars which I do not endorse.
I cannot find a version of You Are My Sunshine I really like. I have seen Governor Jimmie Davis and his band sing it on film, and that was the version I wanted. Many others exist, but none give this song the pizazz our brass band can!

Well, you can only hear a snippet, but every MayDay there is a festival here. After the big parade, a ceremony is held in which the Sun comes across the like and helps raise the tree of life. Then we all sing “You Are My Sunshine.” Here is the only video clip I’ve found of it:
