Escritura

I enjoyed Becoming Jane for the morning scenes of Austen intent on her page of writing. Jumping into the words, she seemed like me.

I was one of those children who went to many music lessons and drama groups, and who had art projects. My grandmother, curious for reasons of her own to decide which of us might be the family writer, announced that it surely would not be me. I already had too much else to do.

It was no complaint, nor was it a judgment. I had no intent of becoming a writer, and I did not mind. I did think she was mistaken. It was possible, even necessary, I thought, to have many interests and activities and still be a writer.

Axé.

  1. I have been hanging out at the following site for a few years. http://www.austenblog.com/

Did you know the movie is fiction? However it is being pimped as mostly true. I still want to see it, even though I am no big fan of Anne Hathaway. Many will disagree, but I think the actress should have been English.

  2. Austen blog, it looks fun! Yes – I know the movie is fiction and I think its premise is ridiculous. Jane *had* to have had this love affair, that was how she became herself, etc., all very predictable and patriarchal, I daresay. Still, I enjoyed it.

  3. I enjoyed the movie too, in spite of the romantic fantasy element, because it did make me think about the relationship between experience and imagination.
