Jack Kerouac

Today we are reading about Jack Kerouac, and seeing him read on television in 1959. Our host is Comment, Critique and Criticism.

Winter is upon us. I know because I have seen a man a felt hat. Straw hats are for summer. I put up the neighbors’ canning pears in wine. I picked key limes from my own tree and bought my Samhain pumpkin.

Axé.

  1. Kerouac and limes! How we grooved on *The Subterraneans.* I loved that story he wrote about being a fire lookout in a national park. His ecstasy about nature was so, well, cute. I guess I’m patronizing him and my younger self, but gee that was a long time ago.
Anyway, my limes are also ready. They are called Tahitian limes. I also have a so many avocadoes and pummelos (like grapefruit only larger and with tougher membranes), and we have been eating huge avocado and pummelo salads every day. Then there is the breadfruit. I made breadfruit chips and also breadfruit cooked in coconut milk yesterday. Excellent.
I love preparing and eating food from my yard.

  2. Ah, la paix d’un beau jardin. Comment j’en ai envie asteur. Je suis encore au bureau. [Oh, the peace of a beautiful garden. How I long for that now. I am still at the office.]
