Santiago de Chuco

For this ominous date we have a video of Vallejo’s hometown, his church, his house, and more. It has an appropriately nervous soundtrack. It was made in the depths of the driest season – everything is as brown as can be. When you get to part about the house, be sure not to miss the slides of the oratory – the family prayed in there for two hours every day. The mountains are much larger, higher, and more varied than this camera allows them to be. But here it is:

And this video leads you to many others, although this is the one I find most entertaining. Here is one of a good Santiago band, with an accordion. Here is the beginning of the 2008 fiesta patronal, the one I went to.
