These things are at the back of my mind so I am putting them here as a way of aerating my gray matter so it can better do the things it must do today.
1. I have joined InDaWriMo. This was an excellent choice and I recommend it, as it helps very much with focus and organization. It makes me feel like a competent adult, as opposed to an overburdened mini-professor.
2. We, the United States, are in Pakistan and Syria. In how many other countries do we have military advisors and contractors? Into how many have we conducted “raids” in this century? How few military advisors and contractors are few enough so that their presence does not constitute intervention? Open thread. LET’S COME HOME, BARACK!
3. I still think the main non-understood (by me) form of sexism I have experienced is having people think that if I request advice or announce an intention it is just a mood I will get over. It is absolutely amazing how many times this has happened, and I have not understood it.
4. I still say that the great majority of certain self-declaredly “serene” denizens are very frenetic. They need a yoga class and a drink.
4.1. I also notice that they make great numbers of assumptions about people and project a great deal, and that they interrupt others a lot.
4.2. I notice that they are not nearly so condescending to men as they are to women.
4.3. I also notice how convinced they are that they are right about everything.
4.4. In sum: these New Age and Self Help people are the flip side of Fascism, in my view.
5. The weather continues to be very beautiful, and I hope it continues.
6. This is a graduate program, not a book club.
7. I am trying to arrange my sabbatical. Ce n’est pas si facile.
Axé.
Are the “serene” people a variation of the Whiteman? Or is that too harsh?
Good luck with arranging the sabbatical.
A variation of the Whiteman – you know, I hadn’t thought of it, but I think you are right.
Really they’re some peers who are heavily involved in ACOA, yoga, and other forms of self help.
But they are the Whiteman.
