People would be excited by many more foods than they are now if they had ever had them fresh, unpreserved, and made from scratch. This lemonade will protect you from pollen and zing you.
6-7 large ripe local organic lemons
local organic honey
water
pitcher
ice
optional: ginger root
optional: mint leaves
Juice the lemons, reserving the rinds. Then pour the juice into the pitcher. Add an equal amount of water and stir in honey to taste, but note that this should only be about half as sweet as “normal” lemonade. Now add the rinds. Grate in a small amount of ginger root, and fill the rest of the pitcher with ice. Crush the mint leaves slightly and put several in the bottom of each juice glass. Pour the lemonade.
You can spike this lemonade with cane liquor, gin or vodka, or mix it with red wine to a shandy-like effect. Notice that since this lemonade is not oversweet and the sweetness is not from sugar, the lemon rinds do not get imbued with sweetness. You can press out the last of it when the lemonade is finished, and use the rinds for the zest or to flavor broth by simmering them along with the bones. Then you can compost them.
Axé.
Had a dream about you last night. You told me to get you a vegetarian meal from the UWA cafeteria and bring it to you. At first I thought, “Who is she to ask me that?” And then I thought, “Actually, why not get it. It’s not such an effort.”
So I went to take your order, but I didn’t really understand it. There were two of your male colleagues who wanted to give me their requests as well. One of them was lying on the ceiling, against the rules of gravity. I said, “What’s your vegetarian dish?” and he said, “Pork.” I said, “Can you say your vegetarian dish again?” And he said, “That’s right. Pork.”
How wild. The world turned upside down??? It is odd because I was at the university where I used to work, at a conference. I used to have very vidid dreams, like yours, about that place, although it is less Gothic now … at least for those of us who have moved.
I’ll be right over!
Wonder if your recipe is one I should try. For some reason I keep thinking that maybe this time is also a lemon. Let’s try and see.
