April Fool! I am not really in Haiti, but I am dreaming of it and of the Faroes. In Haiti one speaks Kreyòl, and in the Faroes, Faroese. I can partly understand both of these languages, which makes the islands upon which they are spoken very tantalizing. And I have no serious interest in Sweden, Norway, or Denmark, but I am very interested in the Faroes, Iceland, and Greenland.

This video suggests that Faroese, when spoken in simple sentences, is closer to the Eastern Scandinavian languages than I had thought. And since I know the Lord’s Prayer other languages, I can read every word of it in Faroese. I cannot understand it aurally. But listen to it in the video to which I have just linked, while looking at the beautiful pictures of these dramatic islands.

Faðir vár, Tú, sum ert í Himli.
Heilagt verði navn Títt.
Komi ríki Títt.
Verði vilji Tín, sum í Himli, so á jørð.
Gev okkum í dag okkara dagliga breyð.
Og fyrigev okkum syndir okkara, so sum vit eisini fyrigeva teimum, ið móti okkum synda.

If I set myself to it I could deduce some grammar from these videos, and make secular sentences of my own using the vocabulary words given. I would identify and generate verb conjugations, case endings, and various types of pronouns. I would seek parallel constructions in other videos. I am an excellent student.
