It was the weekend, and I was so hard at work that I forgot to have us sing. We will sing soon! I was not doing what I ought to have been doing. Something that had come up and had to be taken care of.
I had to do a kind of psychological operation upon myself to do it. This was extremely difficult but it will be of some benefit. One more piece of Reeducation — gone.
We will not speak of it now but my weekend project had to do with a whiteman. That Blackguard, to be specific. We will parody him another day. I am singing that this was very difficult, but it is finished.
A secret reader says of this blog: “It’s the short declarative sentences, but also above all the active effort it makes at trying to remake the world through language, that impress me so much.”
This blog is my creative outlet and it has advertising, but it is actually a lot of work and I think it has a kind of plot. Do you think I should convert it to a novel manuscript? A modernist novel, you know — or avant-garde, Joycean. Kaleidoscopic.
It could have an online version as well, which would not be a blog but some kind of virtual object, doing back flips, turning and turning in a widening gyre, playing ball.
What do you think? And if you think it is a good idea, what should the title be? Popol Vuh occurs to me but it has been used many times.
Axé.
It could work. But you need to simplify it in some way. Flesh out the whiteman and blackguard characters. Limit the number of characters to half a dozen. And let us see them interact.
This actually is what I should do to my unfinished novel Madrid!
I also would have said that as a novel it would need slightly clearer characterization–but it might turn into a symbolist work in the end.
I can’t figure out a way to do it that would not be imitative (and haven’t figured out whether that is a problem). Alternative = series of personal essays, like Nancy Mairs. http://www.nancymairs.com/works/
Maybe this, yes. I feel as though I have put so much into it that I want to get something less ephemeral from it. Then the blog can be the blog and the essays can be in my name and no, I will NOT be one of those authors that “blogs as…” … the blog will stay more mysterious.
Do you think?
Thinking about the characters, though:
– PZ in various guises: Toddler Zero, Graduate Student Zero, and so on.
– Da Whiteman [the Blackguard, we have to see about, because so far he is just one whiteman]
– Reeducation [perhaps give it another name … there will be a Reeducation camp, and the people in charge are whitemen]
– the Emeritus Professor [a minor character]
– a Lady or The Ladies
– a sixth character, friend of Professor Zero
Do you think?
Sort of like a Greek tragedy.
I don’t think you need to invent your own genre–that would be asking a lot.
😉 ! 🙂
Correction on the Lady, or addition of a Nice White Lady.
