Review of Barack Obama

It is the weekend, but it is also Good Friday, so we cannot sing. Instead we will review Barack Obama. We will do this for several days. I will begin, but it is an open thread.

BON
– Student loan overhaul

ACCEPTABLE
– Healthcare plan

MAUVAIS
– Afghanistan/Iraq (bad, but he had promised this)
– Arctic and other offshore drilling (bad, but he had promised this)

IMPERDONABLE
– Renewal of Patriot Act
– Honduras
– Hillary Clinton’s Latin America policy in general

Axé.

  1. So if “Bon” is an A, “Acceptable” is a B, “Mauvais” is a D, and “Imperdonable” is an F, what is Obama’s grade average?

  2. I give him an A, but not an A+ because he smiles when millions of People in our nation are not eating; a basic need more important than Insurance Reform, (which just creates 23 million new customers, and 320 new skyscrapers the insurance comapnies love to bulid, meaning new jobs, [exponentially, and with as yet unforeseeable dividends], 2.3 million jobs, and the jobs they will create when they begin to spend their paychecks. Yes, a solid A… an A+ if he were a little more angry, but not vicious… as Leo’s tend to be.

  3. Bon, yet not a solid bon, because he is smiling and cracking jokes while 10% of Citizens of the United States are wondering where they will lay their head at night, and find food to cure the raw knawing in the belly of MILLIONS. Josep Stalin said, “One death is a tragedy. Millions are just statistics.” How utterly cynical. The fact is, it is millions of tragedies, and a State cannot survive if it cannot eat. When the masses are hungry enough, they will storm the fortress gates.

  4. Well, counting just the things I listed — and I would add an D on secret prisons and torture (at least he denounces these nominally) — it’s a high D; I always add half a grade in Louisiana since people aren’t as well prepared as they were when I was a graduate student in California, so that’s C-. Passing, and can move on to the next course, but not doing well.

Gary seems to suggest B-, and adds an important criticism — weak support re hunger. B- might be a more accurate overall grade, though, just because he doesn’t validate oppression the way the Bushes did.
