  1. I’m sure it is not. Now, if the downloads don’t have viruses, I could have saved the 30 bucks I paid for a copy of “El bonaerense” a few days ago.

  2. There are several sites like that and I figured out that the way some are making money is by having a few legit movies and selling a lot of porn.

Years ago a colleague got a copy of a film for teaching from some source like this. He’d seen the film before, obviously, and so didn’t test the copy all the way through before showing it in class. Suddenly it cut from the film it was supposed to be and was a porn film — the initial scene in question being of oral sex between two men — and this in closeup, right, because it was a porn film.

There was a lot of trouble over that, because we are in a very conservative area and this was before it was in fashion to be gay, and before porn was mainstream and in the open.

  3. P.S. I was looking to buy “El bonaerense” yesterday and didn’t because I couldn’t find one made for the right region and that I could tell would have subtitles. I am saying I will buy it next year … we will see.

  4. This is the one I bought:

As long as it’s NTSC, I’ve found out that most DVD players will play the movie. Only once it did not, but I could watch the movie in the computer. And it says it has English subtitles. I haven’t received it yet, but when I do, I’ll let you know if it works on my $40 DVD player

  5. OK I am going to think about this. I’m balking at $30+ for a used DVD that may not work on all players, and may relent — or may wait and see if my grant comes through.

  6. I bought it because I need it for my project. I think it’s a very important movie in many ways, but I wouldn’t say it’s essential. If you have to prioritize, I’d leave it for later.
