On Golden Boys

All my Portuguese students this semester are women. I threw the men out in the spring by giving them Bs. They were good but not serious.

I am dealing with two Golden Boys right now — you know the type, they were designated Golden Boys at birth.

They have had advantages and that is why they are Golden Boys, but this does not mean they are not working.

There were Golden Boys of various types from graduate school on and some of them are irritating – it depends upon what they do.

Am I too kind, to be focused on the inequities of which the existence of Golden Boys is only a minor symptom, and not on the boys themselves?

Axé.

  1. The world belongs to men and we are but the bit players. Sure, we can kid ourselves from time to time, but who’s really important? The man, that’s who.

  2. So not being surprised by the fact that there are certain very privileged men, isn’t reactionary.

I feel guilty or something delivering that kind of news to people, as in confirming their fears: Yes, you are right indeed. Since this person is designated to win, you are bound to lose; include that knowledge in your planning.

    1. He/She who believes in a cause never loses but yes, he/she may not have the opportunity, in his/her life time, to congratulate the true winners of the cause. History is full with such examples

  3. I don’t know. I went to a grad school for very rich kids and there was no division along gender lines among those rich kids.

” Look around you. Who are the winners? It is ridiculously clear.”

-It is clear. But it has nothing to do with gender. At least, around me.
