I always wondered why people alleged they had no teaching problems but now I see: it is so as not to have to discuss problems we all know exist and that for various reasons do not have solutions that are within our power.
I used to be the one to explain the odd situation to people so they could understand it but I cannot face doing that one more time, cannot face talking about the pain of teaching these courses once I am not there, cannot shepherd one more person through it.
I used to say, can’t we talk about something else? or, I know, I understand, but I can’t think about it all the time, it’s far from the most important aspect of my job, and so on. These tactics never work perfectly and I have hit on the winning one — the one I have seen used without understanding it — the ace.
From now on, everything about my classes is fine.
