Bad, bad agency!

We did not get our grant and were in fact rated 20th out of 35 proposals. We received 76 points, with 70 being the minimum required for funding; some people received many fewer; nonetheless we were rated 20th.

Only the first 8 were funded. Things wrong with us are, allegedly:

a) our university already provides us with many resources;
b) we are in a narrow field;
c) we have been funded before;
d) we asked for a lot of money;
e) it is unclear how the university will contribute financially to the continuation of this project.

Note that (a) and (e) are mutually contradictory.

A pox upon those who wrote and compiled the report saying:

(1) that collections on Spain are extensive when not a single book on or from Spain has been acquired in this century, and
(2) that Latin American Studies is a single, small, narrow field.

Axé.

  1. Merci! We do not get to say, “funded,” but on the other hand we also do not have to implement that fucker, and ideally we get to parlay that prose toward the NEH. More immediately, we liked writing it. Still, I am irritated at the reasons they have given.
