Mo pé parti pou le Texas asté

I am leaving for Texas now, says the title of this post. If I can speak Louisiana Creole like that, and I also know this song, I must be deeply immersed in American folk culture.

Good-bye, old Paint, I’m leaving Cheyenne, I’m going to Montana, to throw the Houlihan, is how I learned to sing it. A Houlihan is a kind of lasso throw, and lasso is a loan word from Spanish.

I am not big on country music, but I do like folk. “Take me back to Tulsa / I’m too young to marry” is the song that has always come to mind when I have had contracts to sign, so you can see that I am a rake and a rambling man.

Axé.
