More on the question of research culture

My younger colleagues who publish a lot say one should expect and want to work at a place with a research culture — one has a right.

They say there are so many obstacles to actual scholarly production here that people go into administration as the way up and out; scholarly production is not reliable as a way up and out since in most fields it is virtually impossible to get enough of it done to make a parachute of.

I do not think they are speaking of all units and all faculty, but the point of this post is that they find it natural and normal to expect a research culture. I also did at one time, and I am adopting that view again.

Axé.
