Encore une fois

Speaking as someone who does not particularly like to teach and only went into academic work because of having had it explained that this was all about research, and very little about teaching, I proclaim that:

Contra what the professors say it does not save time or energy, or lead to happiness, health, or new jobs, or help you rise up and move out, to “phone it in” on teaching.

According to what people have continually insisted to me about “time management” (if you really listen to them, or if they keep saying the same things over the decades) you should (a) just go through the motions in class and then (b) write without conducting research.

(Talk about fraudulent. Talk about black holes in space. Talk about what full professors tell women.)

Axé.

  1. And then you can get rid of the professors and even the institution because they are lazy and unproductive and don’t care about teaching! Everybody wins!

    1. Yes. Perhaps this is what that advice is going for. But really I think it is gate keeping advice, to cause people to fail, and also advice given women because of weird assumptions male professors make about women.

I also got it a lot from Easterners who assumed people from California were lazy/stupid. After being polite and tolerant about this throughout graduate school, I still have very visceral anger about it.
