We were all accused, and accused ourselves so much of arrogance but really it was only that we had other professional obligations. Those of us who said we had not been trained to work at colleges or community colleges and other non research entities were not “being arrogant” but merely stating facts.
I have no training in K-12 teaching and that is my problem. It is what I need, but not what I want. If I were more realistic I would get some but I would rather be realistic by saying I dislike lower division teaching, especially to the foreign language requirement.
The mornings I wake up in pain, having just asked someone in a dream to “stop … I will become whoever you want me to be, but please do not hit me in the face” are the mornings I know I have renounced too much.
