Jedi Mind Tricks for Faculty Productivity, #10. I love it. This is Reply #10:
My morning routine:
While my computer boots up I –
Read one journal article (20 min)
Proof the current article I am working on (10 min)
Check and revise outline for the current project. (5 min)When that is done – computer is ready to go.
I make the proofing changes to the article I was working on (10 min)
I attempt to write one more page. (20 min)Run data for next project. (20 min)
Construct outline for next project. (5 min)Total time usually taken about 100 minutes. After that, I open and check email.
Axé.
If a computer takes 35 minutes to boot it is past time for a new computer! Or at least some defragging and other upkeep to get the boot time down.
I know, it’s weird. And I guess this person prints. So it seems like a routine from the 80s or something. Still, the actual work is close to what I’d like to be doing mornings.
