Here is an interesting post, on which I of course have interesting comments.
Now the question is, how do these voices get installed in one? I always liked school because it was, precisely, not attempting to install such voices. Some of the academic jobs I have had, or some whitemen in them, have made mighty attempts to do so.
Because of your discipline and how I feel about it, and because of who you are and how I feel about that, I have the right to make your life difficult daily, and I have the ability to do it, and I will. I will do it to everyone else in your discipline, which will make you feel even more disempowered since you will see there is no future for any of you here. And then I will start saying it was your fault, because of your collective inadequacies, that you brought it upon yourselves, that you chose it. You will see eventually that you did in fact cause it, by not being quite clever enough to get around me.
Working in this situation daily made it hard for us to come home in the evening feeling anyone, anywhere, might believe anything we could write.
It is of course not a leadership model I respect, but it still worked to undermine all of us.
