Merci

These are the Dansko Harper in oiled black. I bought them this afternoon, so I am grateful. They are amazingly comfortable and they make me feel competent.

This semester I have acquired more shoes at once than ever before, because due to this foot problem I developed all my former shoes had to go. I thought renting to an exchange student would help me save for work on the house but it has bought me shoes.

In case you have a shoe fetish here is what I have acquired in addition to the above, and what thus comprises my complete shoe wardrobe now:

Dansko Buffy short boots in grey suede, very good but they do have a heel so one is not supposed to wear them all day
Dansko Sandi sandals in black, excellent although it is cool now, on almost the same last as the Harper, above
Sanita Sonja clogs in black, turned out to exacerbate what is said to be my permanent sore spot, donated today to a very appreciative person who needed them
Brooks Ravenna running shoes in turquoise, and these do cushion your foot and cause you to stand correctly
Merell Barefoot Pace Glove running shoes in black, wonderful in general but not quite right for me, so these may go to the very appreciative person as well.

The total cost of the six pairs of shoes, the one of which has been donated already and the second of which will be, was $750. All my shoes will cost at least $100 from now on, as a rule. Thanks to my renter I paid cash, and the most recent shoes are the best. My foot problem is a bone spur on a joint, which I believe I got from wearing mules. You, therefore, should beware.

There are essential categories and colors of shoe that I still lack in the new prescription. I have eight old pairs of shoes to stand in the gap. As these vestiges go, I hope to replace them with well fewer than eight pairs.

I travel with three pairs of shoes: running shoes, sandals, and something dressier (summer) or a pair of boots (winter/rainy season), sometimes for months, and it seems enough. I am really only interested in having a Pair Five (and Pair Six!) so I can have something lighter colored and something somewhat dressy, and rain boots. What do you have?

MINIMAL SHOE CHECKLIST, THEN:

Running: have
, could use a second and different pair, like these old school Reeboks, for weekends, weight lifting, zumba…
Rain boots: available for $15 at Academy
Garden clogs: have
Dark sandals: have
Light sandals: want
Dress shoes: want, am using old Dansko Raes in the meantime
Casual shoes/boots: have Dansko Harper
Dressier shoes/boots: have Dansko Buffy

So I want four more pairs of shoes.

Axé.

  1. Keens are my favorites. Very Northwest. Don’t know if they would go over in Louisiana. In Hawaii I wear crocs (quelle horreur. But you knew I was no fashion plate.)

When I think of those Ferragamos I once owned, though…

    1. P.S. And Aetrex, and I really liked your recent post on “Peace in our time,” although it would not let me comment.

  2. Back in the day I thought the wavy soles of those Ferragamos were silly, but I would take them now and enjoy them. I am thinking of buying Cork-ease which is also very 1970s.

Keens, I would like the Akita mid boot in dusy olive, and the Willamette, if just for the name. I am attracted to the red ones but might have to think twice.
