I think the reason you are to publish your revised dissertation as a book is to liberate it from the committee. Also, while you are doing this you see the shape of the next book come into view. I think this is a good plan generally.
This project I have is not the next book after my dissertation book — that one was easy to plan. This one is part of the dissertation project I would have had and it is now the size of about four ghostly monsters because, while alleging to be working on field 1 but not able to face it (I experienced that as lack of interest but it was really horror), I was really working on field 2 but not allowing myself to go above the conference paper level because writing was supposed to be in field 1. So the corpus of my work in field 2 has grown and grown.
I think this is about four books and I think I had better plan them because otherwise I will keep wavering about what goes into the one.
