This composition from the 1930s sets words form the Popol Vuh to avant-garde music.
I want to start teaching the Popol Vuh not as an ancient but as a modern text. The version we have was composed in the 18th century, after all. Do you not think this is legitimate?
Note: I realize the answer is, it is “colonial.” But the coloniality appears to be neverending. I want to teach some other indigenous literature in the colonial course and the Popol Vuh in one of the modern ones.
