These are the main academic influences I have, I really do believe. I am not saying they are good. I am just saying I think these are the key influences for form of thought and that is why I am as I am.
→ Many modernists in Latin American literature nowadays do not have the kind of classical and especially Medievalist education I have.
→ Most people in Spanish did not do modern French studies as I did — they really didn’t. I can listen to entire complex, theoretical lectures by Leo Bersani and Denis Hollier and not miss a thing. This is how I learned to have complex, theoretical thoughts that go against the grain.
→ People not from São Paulo or at least Brazil are unlikely to have studied with José Miguel Wisnick, who is sophisticated in the way the two aforementioned French scholars are.
