February 13, the execution date, is Ash Wednesday and it is easy to slip things through while we are all distracted by Carnaval. Let us try to prevent that.
Mardi Gras falls this year on Lincoln’s birthday. Let’s take another step toward freedom on this day. Executive clemency is what is needed. Talking points: you can’t fight death with death; a second crime does not undo the first; studies show that for crime victims, revenge killing compounds and does not heal the trauma.
