I did not know about this. Franco apparently had a mestizo theory of Spanish identity that was important to his conception of the nation. (Joshua Goode’s book is really good.)

I wish I had another lifetime to learn Spanish so I could follow you on these things.
This film is a piece of Francoist propaganda. What is amazing is that the man himself wrote it … and it is called “Race,” to boot … (as in noble Spanish race …).
Oh Lord. Who believes that stuff?
They believe related things today. You should hear my students.
I shudder to think. But they are young. I would tell them that the more comfortable they feel with their assumptions the more likely their assumptions are to be wrong.
