Coisas que não vou fazer mais

At the top of the list of things I am not going to try to do any more is cutting corners on teaching. I do not like the phrase cut corners anyway, it is one of those Pollyannaish phrases from Home Economics, and I have heard far too much about the importance of doing it on teaching. “Saving time” is more palatable than “cutting corners” but I am also not interested in being whipped with the rope of time time time.

I do not know for whom the urgent, timesaving advice is meant. Perhaps for those who bake for their students, play their guitars in class, invite whole classes over for dinner, I really do not know. I think that when people started going on at me about it, they did not know that I was efficient; they were not actually speaking to me.

Next year I want to put more time into teaching, not less, and I want to use that time well. This is not because I am one of those who says teaching comes first; it is because it is more fun to do everything well and to feel the energy that comes from that.

Axé.
