Now, we are allowed one, and if we do not like them enough to hire we have to go through a long process to request the visit of a second candidate. That is not a good idea since it pushes the decision back a couple of months, so we usually end up hiring the first one whether we are enthusiastic or not.
We also sometimes tenure whether we are enthusiastic about it or not, because if we started over we would have the same dice-roll again and would not necessarily do better.
