Reasons are to stabilize the department (strong Spanish will do that), but also to serve the needs of the state and the region (if we don’t have the major and a path to an M.A., only LSU and Tulane will have the B.A. and soon there will be no path in state to a freestanding M.A. with the graduate hours instructors and many HS teachers need).
