Something About Mary

I should perhaps have something to say about yesterday’s state election, but I am far more concerned about the fact that Mary Landrieu, D-Louisiana, voted in the Senate of the United States last week to suspend habeas corpus and legalize torture.

I do not recommend Mary Landrieu. I was convinced me to vote for her last time around by the Diocese, which kept telephoning me to remind me that she supported Roe. At least there is that, I thought.

Nunca mais, porra!

Here, then, is a poem by Juan Gelmán, who lost children and a grandchild to the oubliettes. Amazingly, Gelmán seems to have a blog. When the site opens up, click on his picture. You will see.

Axé.

  1. OT: I don’t know. I like the look of the templates better, and the comment moderation system … and their servers seem to go out less.

From what I can gather, WordPress is a bigger piece of software, which can do more things. For people like you or me, who just have a blog, I think it doesn’t really matter.

Gelmán is on WordPress, which is entertaining.

  2. P.S., still OT: I just got tired of Blogger. And WordPress is an open source project. I am in wordpress.com, where they do the hosting for you, but then there is wordpress.org, where you can download the software and use it anywhere. This is attractive.

You can also have users with permissions levels from 0 to 10, so conceivably, a group could produce an online magazine with WordPress. This could be really useful for things like advanced class projects, activist groups, etc. … with more functionality than Blogger, from what I can tell.

So, I’m in it because of what I may learn, basically. I’m still messing with the template, figuring out how much I like this one or not, and how much of my dislike has to do with not fully understanding the program yet.

I just figured out, for instance, that there IS an ‘edit CSS’ button. This means the template is more flexible than I had thought.
