WM: On my project.
PZ: I am working on a different project, so I am afraid I cannot collaborate on your project at this time. Perhaps we could plan a joint project, of interest to both of us, to be undertaken when we have each finished the projects on which we are working now.
WM: You are sending me a mixed message.
PZ: How so?
WM: You asked to work with me, and then said you did not wish to work with me after all, in practically the same breath.
PZ: No. You asked me to work with you. I said yes to the general possibility of working with you, and no to the invitation to collaborate on your current project. I then suggested we plan to undertake a joint project, which we could create together.
WM: You are refusing to work with me.
PZ: Until I finish my current project and you finish yours, yes.
WM: Well, if you want to work with me, it must be on my project, and it must be now. It really is that simple, and it is your choice.
PZ: I decline.
WM: You decline?
PZ: I decline.
WM: Why are you so mean?
Translation: I do not want your collaboration, I want your elbow grease. If you do not offer it willingly, I will press my case in any way I can.
It is Friday, and the plate lunch place had fried catfish and crawfish etouffée. I chose green beans and cabbage, but I could have chosen red beans and potato salad. The afternoon is sunny and beautiful, and it is the weekend, and we will sing.

I think this is what I am trying to articulate by exposing the, “my person is the political,” mentality, therefore “you do not matter.”
Professor Zero, sorry to interrupt and to be off topic, but one of the daughters of the woman dragged to her death recently has commented on my blog twice, in Spanish. I used a web translator to try to understand what her comments were, but those things suck. What I could gather is, she is broken-hearted, devastated. Would you consider going in there and translating her comments and my response and maybe adding your own response in Spanish? I am honored that she commented to my blog and would like to respond properly somehow.

I am so drowning in students with serious physical and emotional problems just now that I’m not able at this time to go to the site you suggest. I have no emotional wherewithal left.
My comment is, rather, about WM’s last remark of the dialogue. My experience has been that he would have said, “Uh-huh. See how you are? You say you want to be included, but when you have the opportunity, this is what happens…”
That’s true – it is one of the things they do! The thing is they can’t say that to me [for various reasons] unless they are entirely deluded / real batterers – they do say it to instructors and assistant professors, though, regularly !
It seems to me that this WM is either losing a link in his rationalizing skills. I mean, what you said was clear. Unless, he was trying to control you via emotional blackmail. Either way, he sounds like a dullard I know from my university. Blast them!
