In between making calls to get out the vote, I have been receiving some static on this site from people who call themselves Christians. I hereby send these wicked grigris home. I would also like to remind any California readers I may have to go out and vote NO ON PROPOSITION 85.
Update: Proposition 85 lost, and so did a few other bad ones, thanks be to Allah.
Shout-out to actual Christians like Asabagna, Bess, and Dave: I don’t mean you! I mean the ones with the circular logic. Example:
Christian: Convert, and you will find you no longer have road rage.
PZ: I do not have road rage now. You yourself expressed amazement at this the last time I gave you a ride.
Christian: Yes, I was amazed at your level of denial. You were able to suppress any sign of road rage perfectly. All non-Christians have road rage. My pastor said so.
These kinds of conversations are infuriating. And, of course, they use the oppressive and self-serving ‘logic’ of DA WHITEMAN. And converting so that you can feel happier while driving, or, as someone suggested to me even more outrageously the other day, praying for a parking place as a way to practice your faith, makes an absolute mockery of what religions, on their good days, have wanted to stand for.
Axé.
I did already! No on 85. I spent most of the day researching all the props. It was a nightmare. I should have spent the whole last month breaking each of them down, but to be honest I thought the description to each one would lead to a no-brainer. How I was wrong. I spent forever trying to get a straight answer on 90. Finally I had to go with a no. And there is another big one that Bill Clinton has been campaigning for, but I had already picked before I saw his commerical. We were in accordance. I cannot think of which one now.
Bible drippers—–I’m still ROTFLMAO!!!!!
If they only practiced some of the doctrine that is in the bible, the world would be a better place.
Uh oh, down they will probably drip on me. To think I have my nice red/white/and blue outfit on for today.
Hey – glad you enjoyed the term – I don’t know how I got the inspiration for it, it just sort of came over me! 😉 Prop. 90, I really hope it loses too. Voting on the West Coast is almost like being a legislator, all those propositions. Here, we have constitutional amendments and taxes. –Z
Yes, it is true that if Christians practiced the doctrine in the Bible, the world would be a better place.
I do not live in Cali, but if I did I would have voted no also. And I am a Christian…
It’s unfortunate that Christian readers are giving you grief. :)I am a Christian and son of preacher, but I wouldn’t beat anyone over the head about what I believe. I’m still growing, but all I can do is share what I know with those who want to hear. Peace~
Hi Stephen! I think it is … people who claim to be Christians! –Z
I voted no. Most folks I have spoken with voted no as well.
I’m sorry about the bible thumpers. They have been giving me grief as well. Mormons hang out on the corner by my apartment (in San Fran!!)
I worship the devil, but that is neither here nor there, 🙂
well, you weren’t angry when you started the conversation, but you are now, now aren’t you?? Hmmmmmmmmm?????????
Heh.
Praying for a parking space. I think I have done that before, and I’m not a Christian. LOL!!!!!! But to be honest my parking space success is owed to my determination, my hawk like observations skills, my knowledge of how people walk. There is the “I’m just going to my car walk” (a lot of students have this walk) and then there is the “I’m getting the fuck out of here walk.” And then there is the “I hate that you are going to get my perfect spot, but I do need to get to an appointment.” HAH!
az here – voted down the gay marriage ban — feeling pretty good about that..
so um, as a buddist i have road rage? wow, thanks for letting me know…i feel so enlighten now…grin
“Well, you weren’t angry when you started the conversation, but you are now, now aren’t you?? Hmmmmmmmmm?????????”
Yes, well those who came to be mean at this site and, coincidentally, in person, they managed initially to make me feel like absolute h***. Short version: “We have come to help you, and in order to get you to accept this ‘help’, we are going to be as mean as we possibly can.” It took me a couple of days to figure out that they were probably demons themselves. Now I have cast them out, and I feel much better.
LOL! The road rage thing has to do with the individual. Yes, your faith can give you strength against your own will to curse the driver in the next car, but it doesn’t always stop it. I’m not violent, but I have to keep my temper in check. So, Christianity does not exempt one from the frailties of human nature.
By the way, no offense taken by your comments. I don’t think that you have something against Christians. I also have a bit of a problem with other Christians who take on the attitude that they are more Christian than the next or that the rest of the world is evil. They need a different approach.
sweet jesus in a thong!! don’t get me started on christians.
It’s not just the Christians–it’s also some denizens of Al-Anon, who can be quite pernicious. From them, my favorite quotation is, “doing things my way does not work, I must do things God’s way, and if it appears to you that doing things your way works for you, that is because you are doing things wrong and do not know it.” Bleat on, says PZ, but not in my presence.
