This is archival footage of the bombing of the Palacio de la Moneda in Santiago de Chile September 11, 1973. The audio is the final speech of then President Salvador Allende, announcing that he will not give up (he was killed later on in the attack).
I discovered this video in a search for music. I also discovered footage of a speech by Allende before the United Nations, in which he decries the activities, and excessive power of transnational corporations. He paid for that attitude with his life.
My regrets if you have visited over the past few hours to find a chaotic proliferation of YouTube videos. That was, apparently, a result of my YouTube Mystery Problem, which is ongoing. I am afraid this may have obscured my Bayard Rustin post. This is a great find.
I just saw THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED last week, so this is a good companion piece. Not enough has changed except in Venezuela, they had a happy ending.

What impresses me most, though, is the tone of voice: that degree of calm while under bombardment (and the generosity in the words).

Nezua, no rush! I’ve heard both versions – that he committed suicide and that he died under the attack (i.e. shot/bombed/smoke inhalation/etc.) – but I’m not an expert in this…
