Últimas palabras de Salvador Allende

This is archival footage of the bombing of the Palacio de la Moneda in Santiago de Chile September 11, 1973. The audio is the final speech of then President Salvador Allende, announcing that he will not give up (he was killed later on in the attack).

I discovered this video in a search for music. I also discovered footage of a speech by Allende before the United Nations, in which he decries the activities, and excessive power of transnational corporations. He paid for that attitude with his life.

My regrets if you have visited over the past few hours to find a chaotic proliferation of YouTube videos. That was, apparently, a result of my YouTube Mystery Problem, which is ongoing. I am afraid this may have obscured my Bayard Rustin post.  It is just below this one, and Rustin has to do with Dr. King, so take a look! …And, do you like my revised header image, by Nezua? …And Charlie and Amy, I am reading this.

Axé.

  1. Thanks or posting that ProfZ.

I’d never seen the footage of the bombing of the Presidential Palace–very powerful stuff.

  2. This is a great find.

I just saw THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED last week, so this is a good companion piece. Not enough has changed except in Venezuela, they had a happy ending.

THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED is so much fun to watch! –Z

  3. Moving Images, Z. Sorry I don’t understand the audio.

And I hope you enjoy Unbound Press. I’m confident you will. If not, demand a refund! :o)

  4. Charlie, there’s a translation here:

What impresses me most, though, is the tone of voice: that degree of calm while under bombardment (and the generosity in the words).

And yes, I am indeed enjoying Unbound Press!

Nezua, no rush! I’ve heard both versions – that he committed suicide and that he died under the attack (i.e. shot/bombed/smoke inhalation/etc.) – but I’m not an expert in this…

  5. Yes I like the heading.

Youtube seems to be taking up to eight sometimes ten hours to show up in a blog.

Gracias Moksha and thanks for the YouTube tip! Mysteriously, it now plays its audio even when I am not in administrator mode. So I guess this all has been a YouTube glitch … even though not everyone experienced it. –Z

  6. Hi Professor Z… help me out again, will you? I’m sitting here in Glasgow… have just now had time to open my html files and putter around with the UP website again… still seeing stars and diamonds on the contributor’s page? http://www.unboundpress.com... thanks for taking the time to wander back and forth to the page… Hope all is well…

    Amy

  7. Hi Professor… unrelated again… got your comment on my blog… yes, know how to look at source code, but unfortunately I’ve spent hours putting all those rascally odd looking things in… they have to stay… I have, however, tried a few new things tonight… adding a few more html tricks and etc… Here is the link directly to the contributor’s page… – not sure if I can put the code in here to make it a live link or not, I’ll give it a try… Profiles….

Also, if you would rather chat via email please feel free to contact me.
