Ogum Wears Blue

The other spirit I have at my back is Ogum, who is among other things a blacksmith. And if there is one thing I do not like, it is invasion. I am very relaxed in most situations, but try to invade me and Ogum and I will smite you with all our might.

Ogum is also protecting Gary Tyler, who is calmer than ten Buddhists and stronger than you. The next time you feel like crying about the vicissitudes of your education, or about any of the other difficulties your middle class soul has faced, you might consider flashing a smile at Gary.

I am, as you know, all for contemplation. But no amount of reading in Critical Race Theory, or of self-flagellation, or of complaining, will bring your level of virtue anywhere near that of the mothers who emerge from the bus Saturday mornings to visit their children at St. Gabriel and Angola.

So flash a smile at Gary, it may do you some good.

Axé.

  1. Hi Philp! 🙂 Are you Xango the Brazilian or the Caribbean one? Brazilian Iansan (my main spirit) is Xango/Shango in Cuba, syncretized with St. Barbara (with the tower, and the lightning, and the red robe)! If that’s your Xango, we are twins! Or I guess, siblings… 😉

  2. i like Erzulie — holding a babe in one arm and branishing a knife in the other….she’s a bit like me – protector of the weak

love this post…and old news story…now i see why justice is blind
