These are David Byrne and the Talking Heads. This musical selection has been inspired by the general situation and Momo’s Byrne post.
Reading for today is the Feminist Reprise, Joanna Russ on Marriage and Capitalism.
Axé.

Love it. Takes me back.
Joanna Russ is so damn smart, I’m glad she’s my tocaya. In so many of the discussions I read on blogs these days about sex, gender, whatever, folks leave out this really important part about labor and the reproduction of labor (that good old marxist topic). Did you read the Nation article “The Crisis of Care”? by Ruth Rosen? Over on Twisty’s, there is a (re)reading of Shulamith Firestone going on. I read it so long ago I no longer remember why it scared me at the time, so I should probably go back and read it again.
I’m halfway through the Rosen article. I saw the Firestone rereading but have not read Firestone – there are a lot of books from that era I really need to read for the first time. I seem to be heavily influenced by them despite not having read them. I am sure that if I did read them, I would finally come to understand my own impressions of What Is Going On! 😉 I was going to go to the office tonight but I may procrastinate by continuing to read in Three Guineas. Oh, no: I have school work here also that need to do for tomorrow – finish rereading Moratin, La comedia nueva o el cafe (what a switch from Rosen/Firestone/Woolf). Ah well. It is better than grading. I will go in at maybe 5 AM (no joking).
