Academic Dreams

I have very elaborate dreams and I had one of my most academically successful ones the morning of my first Ph.D. exam. It was in the adventure quest genre. At the very end I was able to snatch the golden key from the beak of the eagle. I woke up knowing I would write a hard driving essay and pass.

Now two of my students have had dreams. One is learning to ice skate. I and another faculty member are out on the ice with him. I am distracting him by saying, come on, this is easy and fun! The other is distracting him by saying, it is time to skate faster! At the banks of the lake, two other faculty members are having a picnic and looking on, highly amused.

In the other student’s dream, I am leading her class to the exotic restaurant where we will study Isabel Allende. We ride our bicycles the length of a busy and dangerous street. To get to the door, we must climb a 350 foot staircase made of bones. I say, climb! It is stimulating and fun, and you will like the restaurant!

I do not know whether I should find these dreams disturbing, or not.

Axé.

  1. This student’s impression of you is a peculiar one. :)It’s a very entertaining and interesting account nonetheless. How are you professor?
