Other Majors, Other Worlds

Here is a new, self-tagging meme to entertain those of us who may be in Grading Jail. What college majors, other than the one(s) you actually declared, have you seriously considered or repeatedly fantasized about declaring? These are mine:

Creative Writing
Economics
Environmental Studies
Law
Near Eastern Studies
Studio Art / Ceramics.

Also for Grading Jail, we can listen to Anne Waldman read “Fast Speaking Woman” and Allen Ginsberg read “Howl” right here, introduced with a beautiful chant. When I finish grading I shall mend my white clothes, and we will sing.

Axé.

  1. Physiology. I took all the pre-reqs and almost declared it, but ran out of gas in physics, and had already almost completed the Comp Lit major. I was always interested in nutrition, and I still am.
As a small child, I read National Geographic, and decided I should be an anthropologist, after seeing the article on the Aswan dam and Egyptian artefacts. I never investigated anthropology in college, though. I think I just wanted to travel, and see different ways of life (see previous meme about imperative).
In my dreams, I am a dancer.

  2. I am a poet or architect, but only if I’m spared the scornful laughter of my peers: apparently I’m “always taking myself too seriously” well this time I don’t care!

  3. Hmmm, other majors…

    Vocal music, definitely.
    Creative writing
    Art history
    Architorture, for about two seconds
    Painting
    Sculpture
    Library science
