Fats Domino

This Fats rocking and rolling on “Ain’t That a Shame” – a great musician and song, and the video is a fascinating document. Observe.

This is one of my farewell songs to Reeducation. I am really happy to have ejected as much of Reeducation from myself as I have over the past few weeks. It makes everything so much easier to do – and academia so much more fun – because I am so much more self-directed and objective.

Reeducation did not like me precisely because I was able to be objective, knew how to handle most things, and had ideas of my own. It has taken me all of this time to realize that this was really all they were worried about, and then to figure out that being that way was not a major “character flaw” or sin. And what they really meant was, it was “unfeminine.” But had they said that directly, I would have scoffed at them and not returned.

Now I have returned almost entirely to the savage, unreconstructed, unreeducated zone. On this misty mountain we have Zen meditation and birdsong, not popular psychology, God and yee-haw. And that is almost all I have to say on the matter.

Axé.

  1. Did you notice the European-American woman in the audience trying to figure out how to clap on the beat? She appears with about a minute left on the video. She’s watching the others, trying to get it (as if they know). I’ve watched this three times now, just to giggle at her.
