Lessig on Obama

My post of Derrick Ashong speaking on Barack Obama is popular, for good reason. Chez Lumpenprofessoriat there is an excellent video by Lawrence Lessig on why to support Obama over Clinton this primary and caucus season, in case your state has not voted yet or in case you are going to the convention. It is also very helpful for people who may want to try to sway others – as I, obviously, am trying to do here. It is a very logical, not an emotional appeal, and it is truly worth watching. Here is the written text Lessig reads in the video, which you can download here.

Before we go, let us take a moment to admire the work of Lawrence Lessig generally. This winter one of my questions is whether I have been naive to believe, all of these years, that work, for people with an education, was or ought to be more than “just something you do to support your family.” I always thought that only applied when you were working for mere survival, but I have more recently heard it is always the case – nobody is working except to accumulate capital – and I am trying to absorb this shock. But Lessig is one of the various people with successful careers which also appear to be useful and impassioned, and to have been chosen for these reasons.

Axé.
