El nuevo look

For over twenty years South American haircutters of various nationalities have periodically redesigned my hair such that I have big puffy bangs, minimal sides, and a tail – like a large version of the classic cut for short hair, since my hair still stays long. These haircutters do no not know each other but it is as though they were in collusion with each other to convince me that this is how I should have my hair. Now it has been done again and for the first time, it actually looks good. I may try to have it reproduced in the U.S.

Axé.

  1. did you get the massage also? what about the twine to the eyebrows for “shaping?” Or, maybe a bit of rubbing alcohol and a lighter to the neck area?

Man, that’s the best… thanks for reminding me, this will soon be in mine!

  2. Jason – no, I didn’t get these things! What, rubbing alcohol and a lighter?! I want the massage, though… and a facial!!!

Jennifer – streaks, those sound good. I don’t get them because I dye my whole hair – it seems too much – but maybe I should switch to them, I had them before I came up with the dyeing idea.

  3. The quick story is that I had a barber in Iraq who would, after completing the cut, splash some rubbing alcohol on the neck after trimming the neck hairs. He would then take a cigarette lighter and ignite the rubbing alcohol on ones neck. All of this happened without notice, the rubbing alcohol feeling cool and cleansing, until a hot and half-second sensation of burning had traveled your neck. And that was that, end of the cut.

  4. hahahaha.

No, I’m no hairy back. In particular, this was this barber’s specialty, though I am certain it was common practice.

The contracted third country nationals (not Iraqi) working for AAFES (Army and Air Force Exchange Service) during my second tour, in ’05-06, had specialized in massage, spending more time for a massage than cutting hair.

    good service = good tip!

  5. It’s funny, a whole contingent trained in massage and giving it that much weight in a haircut. Actually I’d like that kind of a haircut.

My roommates and I used to do that in college, walk on each others’ backs.
